Fort Davis, Texas - An exhibit in the visitor center at Fort Davis National Historic Site illustrates the African-American "Buffalo Soldiers" who were stationed at the fort from 1867-1885. Named after Secretary of War Jefferson Davis, who became president of the Confederate States during the Civil War, the fort was opened in 1854 and closed in 1891.
