Vietnam: General Vo Nguyen Giap (25 August 1911 - 4 October 2013), Defense Minister of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, gives the International salute, Hanoi, 1969. Vo Nguyen Giap (Vietnamese: Võ Nguyên Giáp) was a Vietnamese officer in the Vietnam People's Army and a politician. He was a principal commander in two wars: the First Indochina War (1946-1954) and the Second Indochina War (1960-1975). He was also a journalist, an interior minister in President Hồ Chí Minh’s Việt Minh government, the military commander of the Việt Minh and the commander of the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN).
