With minimal instruc- tion, this labor force was able to install over 5,000 feet of 8-inch PVC irrigation pipe quickly and easily. In fact, on their first day or the job, the students from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, Tif- ton, Ga., put down about 1,000 feet in less than four hours. The pipe, a product of Johns- Manville, has particular physical and installation characteristics that permitted this high degree of pro- ficiency. Light in weight, the pipe was manually handled in each step of the operation, including unload- ing, stringing, joint assembly and placement in the trench.
