The divid-ing launder splits up the streamof pulp in a large mill for thesame purpose, viz.: to keep sam-ple small, by passing samplespout, C through only a part ofthe stream. This machine can be adapted to mills in operation. The frequency of the samples can be indefinitely increased by adding pins to thegear-wheel. D, or increasing the speed of the worm shaft. E. The size of each sample takencan be varied bv the widths of the dividing launders and of the sampling spout, (J; thesebeing of thin sheet-iron, can be bent by hand to the desired width. Collom\ Automatic Sampler, Pig. 4, is constructed upon the same principle as the Me-Dormott. but the sample spout is fixed to the end of a horizontal arm, which is revolvedslowly by means of a bevel gear, cutting a sample of the falling ore each time il passestlirough it.
