Michael Rowan-Robinson (born 1942), British astronomer, with an image of a spiral galaxy. Rowan-Robinson's research in infrared and sub-millimetre astronomy includes the Spitzer Wide-Area Infrared Extragalactic Survey (SWIRE), the Infrared Astronomical Satellite (IRAS) and the Spectral and Photometric Imaging Receiver (SPIRE) on the Herschel Space Observatory. He was Head of the Astrophysics Group at Imperial College from 1993 to 2007, and President of the Royal Astronomical Society from 2006 to 2008. His awards include the Hoyle Medal (2008).
