School of Great Barracuda, Sphyraena barracuda, swimming in the waters of the Red Sea, Israel (depth: 100-150 ft or 30-45 metres). Barracudas are excellent swimmers, found near tropical sea coasts. During the summer months they migrate to northern & southern temperate seas, usually in pursuit of schooling fishes. They are predatory creatures, greatly feared by man. Barracudas perceive their prey less through smell than through sight, which means they are attracted by anything that catches their attention. The mouth is horizontal, opens to a great width & is equipped with powerful grasping teeth at the front.
