Ebolavirus particle, illustration

Ebolavirus particle, illustration. Ebolavirus is a filamentous, enveloped virus. The virus surface has trimeric transmembrane glycoproteins that allow the virus to enter a host cell. This virus is the root cause of the Ebola virus disease (EVD) in humans and non-human primates. EVD is characterized by severe and often fatal symptoms such as fever, fatigue, muscle aches, vomiting, diarrhoea, and internal bleeding. Although there is no cure for EVD, 75 percent of patients can recover if they receive adequate medical support.
