Ithere described it as a scientific cross, made by Mr. Franklin Rey-nolds, between the Schweinfurt Quintal and Cannon Ball cabbage,the result being a new variety in which are conibined the good quali-ties of both its parents. All of my customers who have raised theSchweinfurt must have been struck with three of its characteristics,viz., its remarkable earliness, the great size of the heads, and its relia-bility to head. The great drawback was the softness of the the Cannon Ball is an early cabbage, being one of the hardest-heading varieties known; and the. result has been to produce a newcabbage, which, while as early as the Schweinfurt, partakes also ofsome of the hardness of tbe Cannon Ball.
