In the sash-fastshown by the figure, the leveris made with a broad, flatend, which presses against astrong spring, A, at the spring serves to stiffenthe action of the lever, whichis further protected againstintrusion, in some cases, bydovetailing the bottom plates,so that the lever cannot be got at through the joint betweenthe meeting-rails.
