Detail of Red Bollard and Rusty Chain on Torquay Harbour Wall. The Inscription of the Manufacturer is ‘Richards JWC SW ...’ .

Close up detail of a bright red bollard with a rusty chain. The inscription of the manufacturer is ‘Richards JWC SW …’. The date is obscured by many coats of paint. Torquay has two harbours, this is the inner one which offers pontoon moorings and shelter for smaller vessels behind a tidal cill. This retains the water at low tide, keeping the vessels afloat. The outer harbour is fully operational and is a base for many vessels offering boat trips. Also a place for passengers on visiting Cruise ships to embark from the tenders. It is a fully working and busy port. The two harbours are linked by an ornate footbridge resembling ships sails.
