Waldeyer holds thatthe epithelial cells of the Graafian follicle were also at one time cells ofthe surface, while Foulis regards them as being derived from theconnective tissue of the ovary as a result of the irritation set up by thepresence of the ovum; as being, in fact, granulation cells which havebecome epithelial in character. 423.
