The boiler pedestal on the site of the old, Bonners Ferry Lumber Company, with the waste furnace tower in the background. The furnace was built with a double walled steel plate water jacket. Wood waste from the mill was incinerated in the tower. The water which flowed through the water jacket was preheated by the heat of the furnace for use in the boiler. The boiler powered the saws and other stationary equipment at the mill. Operations at Bonners Ferry Lumber Company ran from 1902 until 1926. The mill was located at Swede Island, along the Kootenai River (Kootenay) on the east side of Bonners Ferry, in Boundary County, Idaho.
