Swans on a pond. Mute (Cygnus olor) and whooper swans (Cygnus cygnus) Both adult swans grow up to 155 centimetres in length with a wingspan of 200-240 centimetres. They feed mainly on aquatic vegetation. The mute swan is found throughout temperate regions of Europe and western Asia. The whooper swan breeds in wetland areas of sub-Arctic Europe and Asia and occasionally in Scotland. It is a migratory bird, overwintering in northern Europe and eastern Asia.
