The Dutch army is crossing the river IJssel (between Welsum and the village Olst) using a pontoon bridge. This is part of the NATO's exercise Steadfast Defender 24. It is NATO's largest military exercise since the Cold War and demonstrates the unbreakable bond between NATO Allies in Europe and North America. They practice what to do in the event of an attack on a NATO member state. The Netherlands is participating in the exercise with approximately 5,000 soldiers, in which a total of 90,000 soldiers from 32 countries participate.
