Artist/engraver/cartographer: Jacques Nicholas Bellin. Provenance: The map was extracted from a composite atlas of early 18th century maps, the latest of which was dated c1754. Type: Large antique 18th century atlas map, printed on thick, good quality paper with decorative title cartouche. The map shows the Gulf of St Lawrence including what are now the maritime provinces of Canada (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, and part of Quebec), and the coast of New England down to Cape Cod. Many forts are marked, including Fort Ingolsby, Fort Senectady, Fort Kook, Fort Chambli, Fort Anne, Fort Nicholson & Fort de Pemicuit. Many settlements are indicated along the St Lawrence and the coast, including "Plimouth"/Plymouth, "Baston"/Boston, Charkes Town, Salem, manchester, Lynn, Portsmouth, Wells, York, Albany, Quebec City.
