Mahabalipuram lies on the Coromandel Coast which faces the Bay of Bengal. It has various historic monuments built largely during the reigns of Narasimhavarman and his successor Rajasimhavarman (Pallava dynasty -between the 7th and the 9th century), and has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984. Varaha Cave Temple is a small monolithic rock-cut temple with a mandapam dating from the 7th century. The Trivikrama (Vishnu) panel in Varaha Cave - Durga with four arms and Trivikrama overcoming the demon king Bali.
