Here one sees how it was possible for the island to have reached a long way up stream, for a bar extends upbetween the currents for nearly half a mile, with a depth of water not over four feet. This also shows how it was possiblefor people to visit the island before the bridge was built. After leaving the head of the island, from the roadbridge is a spring of cool water, situated ai the foot ofof the Rapids through the trees and at their edge is good view of the Rapids. Half way to therhe path to it is easily accessible, and the viewthe well known Prospect main entrance is a tastystructure. The point of landat the edge and brink of theFalls is called Prospect Point,and commands a fine view,which is the feature of thePark that we give in illus-tration. The point is care-fully protected by a hand-some stone wall running forsome distance along the edgeof the gorge.
