The surface being filled with a paste filler, if of awood requiring a filler, and all cracks, nail holes, etc.,carefully puttied, apply the varnish according to manu-facturers directions, giving ample time to dry. Most makers of floor varnishers explicitlyspecify that liquid fillers are not to be used on floors. Finishing the Floor. 33 A very cogent objection to varnished floors is thatthe unusual wear to which they are subjectedcauses thefinish to wear off in spots indicated by the line of generaltravel across the room and that when once worn thusunevenly no amount of labor can restore the surface toits original state of finish.
