Amongst all the neon signage, one sign advertises a live performance by Willie Nelson (centre left). The Golden Nugget was originally built in 1946, making it one of the oldest casinos in the city. Jackie Gaughan at one time owned a stake in the hotel as part of his many Vegas properties. Steve Wynn bought a stake in the Nugget, which he later increased to became the majority shareholder, and the youngest casino owner in Las Vegas. In 1977 he opened the first hotel tower at the resort. This was the foundation for Wynn's rise to dominance in the casino industry. In 2005 Texas-based Landry's Inc bought the property and it was renamed ‘Golden Nugget Laughlin’ and major re-building works began. This image is from an old American amateur Kodak colour transparency. It will look soft if used at too large a size – a vintage 1960s photograph.
