Osteoporosis of the spine with vertebroplasty. Coloured lateral X-ray of the spine of a 71-year-old woman with osteoporosis, who has had vertebroplasty treatment (pink areas) to two of her vertebrae (T10 and L1). The vertebrae have been filled with acrylic cement to stablise them. This treatment is known as vertebroplasty. Osteoporosis (brittle bone disease) is most common in women after the menopause because they no longer produce the hormone oestrogen that helps keep bones healthy.
