TRUE TYPE OF HOLSTEIN. Considerable public comment ap-pearing in the agricultural papersupon the type ot Holstein-Friesiancattle is very properly directing at-tention to the subject of the true typeot the breed. The breeder who tor one momentin his pursuit of higher fat percentagein the milk forgets type is doing in-calculable damage to the future of thebreed. The true type of the breed is veryaccurately delineated in the scale ofpoints. It is to be regretted that illus-trations of typical specimens are notused to illustrate and emphasize thisdescription. Change of environment of thisbreed from the low lands of Hollandis doubtless effecting a very slightchange in the body structure of theHolstein, tending toward a greaterfinish, or refinement. Aside from thisnatural process, it is very doubtfulwhether any improvement can bemade or should be attempted. TheHolland type is the result of centuriesof selection and environment and ithas distinguished these cattle in allparts of the world. W
