Detail of the 1910 Rock of Ages Lighthouse 2nd order fresnel lens was used on Lake Superior now on display at the Windigo Vistor Center on Isle Royale, Keweenaw County, Michigan. The double bulls-eye on the lens created two double flashes of light every twenty seconds (one full rotation of the lens) that could be seen from more than fifty miles away. The lens magnified a kerosene oil vapor lamp about the size of a Coleman lamp today. The lens was manufactured by the French company Barbier, Benard & Turenne.
