A large German war chest, mid-17th century Rectangular strongbox with heavy iron strap fittings. Hinged lid with eight latches. Richly pierced and engraved lock cover plate depicting three merwomen. Keyhole cover with hidden mechanism. On the front side bogus lock with openwork and hammered decorative cover, two hasps. A movable carrying handle on either side.
