The crank-shafts are of forged steel, fitted with cranksat equal angles, and with the necessary coupling-disksforged on. The crank-webs are 6i in. thick, except thealter one of each engine, which is 7J in. thick. T\e crank-pins are 9 in. in diameter and 10 in. long. The webs areshrunk on both shaft and pins and keyed. The shaft jour-nals are 9 in. in diameter and have a total length of 68 each engine. The crank-shaft boxes are of composi-tion, with steel caps, both lined with white metal. Thecastings containing the crank-shaft bearings are cast-steelin one piece tor each engine. They are bolted to enginekeelsons and stayed to the cylinders by tie-rods and theguides.
