Peat bogs known as "bofedales" occupy the bottom of the valley of the Pastoruri glacier; covered with a short vegetation, they are almost always saturated with water. They provide an important grazing area for local camelids. The plant shown on the photograph is called: Azorella compacta (nature reserve of Huascarán - Ancash - Peru). Ce milieu caractéristique appelé "bofedale" est composé de tourbières; il occupe de fond de vallée glaciaire du glacier Pastoruri et est presque toujours saturé en eau et couvert de végétation rase. Il est utilisé comme pâturage. La plante présentée ici se nomme : Azorella compacta (parc naturel de Huascarán - Ancash - Pérou).
