Silencers at Fawley power station, Hampshire, UK. Roof of Fawley power station, showing auxiliary safety valve silencers. This power station is powered by heavy fuel oil. It was built in the 1960s and began operation as a 2000 megawatt (MW) power station with four 500 MW generating units. Two closed in the 1990s and the station now has the ability to produce 1000 MW of power, which is enough to meet the needs of around 1 million people.
