THE BATTERYS OON after the Battery returned from the war and itsmembers were mustered out, General Russell, thenin command of the State militia, sent for ComradeEdward Griswold, of the First Connecticut LightBatter}, to meet him at his home in Xcw Comrade Griswold found with General Russell,Governor Buckingham, and his Adjutant, GeneralMorse, Colonel Kellogg, of the 2d Connecticut Regiment, and other militarymen. Governor Buckingham stated that he desired to organize a light batteryas a part of the forces of the State, to be under the command of some onewho had had experience in that arm of the service, and offered ComradeGriswold the command of a section to be recruited in Guilford. Comrade Griswold thanked the Governor for the expression of hisconfidence, but thought that as he had served three years at the front hehad done his share, but he expressed his willingness to recruit the men andthen allow them to elect their commander.
