I shall never forget my earlytraining on the farm. Farming in those dayswas somewhat rude, and seemed to those whotook a part that they were making a great head-way. During the time of hay harvest several menwere put in the field with a scythe each, whowould cut the hay. Another crew of men wouldfollow these with two-tine wooden pitchforks,the timber of which was either dogwood, beech,or black hickory. These pitchforks were prizedvery highly and could stand the test of strainreally better than our most mode
