She is here represented, in her meek way, listening; or it may be just answering her tutor's interrogation. The costume of the period has been adhered to in the treatment of the subject. The arrangement of the folds in Lady Jane's dress is simple and graceful. The walls of the room are hung with tapestry. The suspended curtain in the left-hand corner is not in keeping with arrased apartments of the period of this incident. But the group is a clever composition'. From "Illustrated London News", 1857.
