In 1896 he wasa Reed delegate to the Republican NationalConvention held at St. Louis, and the sameyear he presided over the Republican StateConvention of Maine. During the four years,ISSS to 1892, he was colonel on the staff of thegovernor of Maine. In 1904 he married Miss Elisabeth Bur-bank, born in New Hampshire but then aresident of Boston, andltogether they made atour of Palestine, Egypt and Europe.
