With conventions, many social events and the usual number of weddings and funerals, the florists are kept busy. Stock is scarce. No outdoor stock is arriving yet. The season is backward and cold. Within the last few days good, seasonable rains have put every- thing in a good growing condition and if we are blessed with a few days of warm sunshine everything will burst forth in all its glory. Next week the annual rose festival will be held and the Shriners' conven- tion also meets here at the same time, so that it is evident that florists will be short of stock to supply the large de- mand which is sure to come from these sources. Various Notes. The regular meeting of the Portland Floral Society was held Tuesday even- ing, June 15, and officors for the ensuing year were elected. It was decided to hold the annual picnic at Bull Run park July 14. ^special car will accom- modate the party. A basket picnic dinner will be served and ice cream and coffee will be furnished by the so- ciety. All members and their friends are invited. The firm of Martin & Forbes has been taken over by Mr. Martin, who will conduct the business. Mr. Forbes has not decided as yet what he is going to do. Clarke Bros, have acquired the col- lection of orchids owned by Dr. Ferrill, at Portland ITcights. In addition to cattleyas, there are a number of spray orchids in the collection. They were f
