Masked plover. Head of a masked plover (Vanellus miles), also known as a masked lapwing, or spur- winged plover. This wading bird is found throughout Australia and New Zealand, inhabiting grassy areas close to water. The masked plover, which grow to lengths of 40 centimetres, feeds on seeds, molluscs, worms and insects.
