A marble head of a philosopher - a fine copy from the 19th century patterned after early Hellenistic models Head of an older male with curly hair and beard. Treatment and style are comparable with early Hellenistic philosopher portraits, for example of Epicurus, Metrodorus or Hermarchus, which enable an exact designation. Impressive, finely worked sculpture. Nose missing, otherwise largely intact. At the underside of the neck a drill hole for mounting on a metal rod. Height 36 cm.
