Lion's head From the Temple of Ninhursag, Tell al-'Ubaid, southern Iraq, About 2600-2400 BC. A guardian figure for the temple discovered in 1919 at the small site of Tell al-'Ubaid, close to the remains of the city of Ur. The head, made of sheet copper over a bitumen core, was found beside the platform-stairs. It had been damaged by the weight of the brickwork which had probably fallen from the temple on top.
