The township is now well suppliedwith schools and churches, among the latterbeing the United Brethren at Haldane, tno Ger-man Baptist churches—the Old Order, west ofMaryland, and the other about ti\-o miles eastof that place. One of these Brethren churcheswas the first in the township, the first preacherbeing Elder Jacob Long; the present Elder isSamuel Plumb. There is also a church north of. Besides, tliere are two Ger-man churches, a school house, and a beautifulcemetery situated in the southwest corner ofsection number 1, in the northeast corner of tljctownship. It has, perhaps, as little waste landas any other of its sister townships, and is almostentirely under cultivation. There being nolarge towns, the people are devoted almost ex-clusively to agricultural pursuits, and as a con-sequence, they are more than ordinarily thriftyand prosperous.
