Scar from testis removal. Groin and genitals of a 49-year-old man one week after an orchidectomy operation to remove a cancerous testis. The testis was removed through an incision in the right side of his groin (upper left), which has been closed with adhesive strips. Fertility and libido are generally unaffected by an orchidectomy. There may be pain and swelling after the operation, but these can be controlled with pain-killing drugs, and a compress of ice on the scrotum. Testicular cancer is rare, and if it is caught early it poses little threat. If it has spread to other areas of the body, the orchidectomy may be supplemented with anti-cancer drugs.
