This illustration shows what is known as the Frauenlob Miniature, with Heinrich Frauenlob (1250/1260-1318), who also went under the name Henry of Meissen. A German poet of the Middle High period, Heinrich was also a minnesanger, a medieval lyric song writer. His works focused mostly on love poetry and courtly love. He was born in Meissen, Germany, and held court positions in Prague. He wrote Frauenlich, a song about the Woman of the Apocalypse, around 1290. There are two parts to this image: at top is a figure sitting on a throne and holding a staff, with a image of a female in the coat of arms and on the helmet as decoration. At bottom is one musician in the middle playing the instrument known as a vielle. The other instruments pictured in the bottom frame are: top left: shawn, bottom left: vielle; right top: bagpipe; right, middle: tabor with pipe probably hidden; right bottom: transverse flute. Some researchers have suggested that Heinrich is the figure in the center of the bottom image with the vielle.
