As to the nucleus of the fifth (trigeminus) nerve, its motor portionwith the descending motor fibers is found in the mid-brain. The RedNuclei are two round pigmented masses of gray matter, situated in thetegmentum under the anterior quadrigeminal bodies. They receivefibers from the cerebral cortex and corpus striatum, also send out fibersto the thalamus and spinal cord (Fig. 20). 24 THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM AREA OF OPTIC THALAMI, THIRD INTERBRAIN The Optic Thalami are two voluminous ovoid masses of gray sub-stance situated in front of and laterally to the quadrigeminal bodies (seepreceding chapter) and on both sides of the third ventricle. Close toeach other in front they diverge posteriorly. THALAMUS \- - INT
