A Air Force Airman from the 290th Joint Communications Support Squadron uses a folding shovel to chip away at hardened snow and leaves Feb. 11, 2023, at Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center, Michigan. The Airman is attending a class led by Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE) specialists to teach basic survival techniques in a cold weather environment. Over the course of three days each class helped assemble a natural shelter. The leaves are used as insulation from the elements. This class is part of the 290th’s annual training.
