His intimate and venerable friend,Nathan Bangs, preached his funeral sermon in the St. George schurch, Philadelphia, in front of which, near the grave of Law-rence MCombs, his remains were interred. His portrait in oil has been preserved in the Methodist build-ing in New York, of which the accompanying engraving is avery excellent copy His fore-finger hides the large wen on hisneck. Lawrence MCombs1 was pastor of theBrooklyn charge one year—1794. This was hissecond appointment, and he was twenty-five yearsof age, having already given promise of the commandingeminence he was destined to attain in the Church. He was born of wealthy parents,2 in Kent County, Del.,March 11, 1769. At a very early period, as his memorial inthe Conference Minutes affirms, he obtained remission ofsins. There appears to be no further record concerning himuntil 1792, the date of his admission on trial into the travel-ing ministry.
