Yellow and Green Cab Rally held today across from the Gov. Cuomo's Midtown office. Roughly 60 people where gathered. Speaking out against the state’s new surcharge to trips in Manhattan. The measure, part of a larger congestion pricing proposal, will add surcharges to any yellow cab, e-hail or other for-hire vehicle trips that start, pass through or end in a designated “congestion zone” below 96th Street in Manhattan beginning Jan. 1. The state estimates it will generate about $400 million a year for the financially strapped MTA. The cabs would face an additional $ surcharge for such trips and arguing that another fee would devastate drivers struggling to compete against Uber and Lyft. Those companies face a $ surcharge, as well.
