'Abraham preparing to sacrifice Isaac', 1587. To test the commitment of Abraham, God commanded him to make a human sacrifice of his son, Isaac. At the last minute, the Angel of the Lord shows Abraham a ram caught in a thicket, the sacrifice that God had intended from the first.
