Costume of Bois d'Embourg, three leagues from Rouen. Tall bonnet with lace tails hanging forward over the face. Blue shawl trimmed with embroidered roses. Hand-colored fashion plate illustration by Benoit Pecheux engraved by Gatine from Louis-Marie Lante's "Costumes des femmes du Pays de Caux," 1827/1885. With their tall Alsation lace hats, the women of Caux and Normandy were famous for the elegance and style.
