A German military sword, presumably Solingen, dated 1617 Heavy, double-edged blade of flattened hexagonal section, the upper quarter with shallow fullers on both sides. Passau wolf mark with date "1617" incised on both sides. The ricasso with struck mark on one side. Iron knuckle-bow hilt with S-shaped quillons and flat bars. Original grip with elaborately wrapped brass wire and bands, fine Turk's heads. Oval pommel with lateral ridges.
