Idaho Army National Guard soldiers from G Company put meal orders together for pick-up. Napoleon Bonaparte is attributed as saying - “An army marches on it’s stomach.” The saying conveys the importance that soldiers in the field cannot be effective unless they are well fed. The Idaho Army National Guard's 2-116th Combined Arms Battalion was in the field on the Orchard Combat Training Center in the final days of March, in preparation for an upcoming deployment in support of Operation Spartan Shield. The training was rigorous and diverse. While each company completed their individual goals during the week, the soldiers of G Company, supported every unit with ammunition, fuel, MRE’s, water and more importantly a warm evening meal. Nine culinary specialists and 3 dish washers worked at a frenzied pace each afternoon within a three hour time frame to provide a warm meal to every soldier in the field every evening for the week of training exercises - that totaled 3285 meals for over 500 soldiers. G Company is attached to the 2-116th Combined Arms Battalion, as part of the 145th Brigade Support Battalion for the 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team.
