View from salt-marsh at Granny's Bay, Fairhaven, on Lancashire's Fylde Coast, looking south across wet, glistening sand beach and the low water channel of the River Ribble Estuary towards Southport, below white cumulus and grey nimbostratus clouds. Granny's Bay is so-named after one of the local Clifton ladies, who use to take her grandchildren there. The bay, in those days, was a sand beach, before the spread of Spartina grass from Preston, where it was planted in the 1930s to reclaim estuary land for farmers.
