'Crusaders on the March' by Sir John Gilbert (1817-1897). Gilbert's paintings of historical and literary scenes display a theatrical romanticism that appealed greatly to Victorian taste. The term "Crusade" is used to describe religious military campaigns conducted between the 11th and 16th centuries, predominately but not exclusively against Muslims in the near east.
