Iris "Masetto", Iridacceae, hybrid, Iris Barbata elatior "Masetto", Bavaria, Germany

Irises were named after Iris, the Greek goddess of the rainbow, because of their numerous colour variations. Despite this name they are only remotely related to lilies. Nearly 300 different iris species are known worldwide today. Many of them were purposefully bred from wild forms.
