VIIN THE MOSEL LAND 16 CASTLE OF ELTZ. VI IN THE MOSEL LAND The Mosel from Coblenz to Treves is veryromantic. It flows in and out, winding amonghills that are cultivated to their summits. Likethe region of the Rhine, Mosel land is also vine-land. The whole course of the river is beautiful,and everywhere the hills stand close to its most picturesque view is obtained from themountains between Trarbach and Berncastel. Themost romantic feature of the whole region is BurgEltz. It is one of the finest burgs in Germany,and is as well preserved as if it had come butyesterday from the builders hands. The only signof age appears in the grey stone walls with theirmantle of ivy and lichens. There it stands inmajestic solitude. On its rocky steep it bidsdefiance to every foe.
