In this connection, it should always be remembered that in the commoncourse of secondary dentition, the cuspids are often naturally crowded out of theirnormal alignment, and when the direct cause of this amounts to no more than aslight constriction of the space required, nature will usually correct the malpositionfor young patients by the natural growth of the jaw. Infra-Occlusion of Upper Incisors Fig. Fig. 233 is intended to illustrate a simpleform of open-bite malocclusion which pertainsonly to the incisor area, and which may bevery easily corrected for young patients, witha simple resilient alignment arch-bow No. 23or 24 (.022 or .020). The ends of the boware placed in the anchorage tube attachmentson the molars, and the bow is then sprung intoposition under the cuspid hook attachmentsand over those on the incisors. It must be remembered before placing anysmall resilient arch-bow on the teeth, that itshould be curved by drawing it over the ballof the thumb until its ends nearly touch, elseit is liable to exert a buccal expanding forceon the molars. If a lateral expansion of thearch is demanded, distributing lingual exten-sions made of half-round hook wire should besoldered to the lingual surfaces of the molarbands to rest upon and fit the lingual surfacesof adjoining teeth, and then the uncurved orstraight arch-bow may be sprung into its anchorage tubes to act as an expander, acco
